Charter aims to be an accessible and inclusive space for everyone who visits, whether they are members or guests attending a meal or event.
Charter’s selective sign-in admissions reflect the club’s inclusivity. Since ditching the bicker system in the 1980s, Charter has prided itself on not evaluating potential members in any way. Through the selective sign-in system, started in 2012, each Charter hopeful has the opportunity to attend events, and only the number of events attended affect a prospective sophomore’s chance of admission.
All of Charter’s officers work to ensure that the club is welcoming for every current and prospective member. Undergraduate officers maintain a variety of affinity groups for club members. These groups help students from many backgrounds feel included in the club.
Officers also work closely with Sexual Harassment/Assault Advising, Resources, and Education (SHARE) peers to make sure that the club abides by all SHARE policies, and leads SHARE trainings for the entire club.
Project 79 promises improvements to clubhouse accessibility. So far, the club has added an ADA-accessible bathroom, and is planning on adding an ADA-accessible entrance and an elevator between the basement, first, and second floors to provide access to all of the club’s areas.
